Employment vetting is typically completed within 5 to 7 working days, although turnaround times can vary depending on the level of vetting required and the number of checks being undertaken.

Some checks may require information or documentation from candidates, referees, or third-party organisations. Delays in receiving this information can extend the overall completion time.

At Valantus, we work proactively to keep the process moving and provide regular progress updates through our secure online portal. This gives you complete visibility of your vetting application from start to finish, ensuring a transparent and efficient experience for both employers and candidates.

Right to Work FAQ

Digital Right to Work checks allow employers to verify an individual's eligibility to work in the UK remotely through a Government-accredited Identity Service Provider (IDSP). Using advanced identity verification technology, including document validation and facial matching, the process securely confirms a candidate's identity and Right to Work status without the need for physical document checks.

This faster, more convenient approach reduces administrative burden, minimises the risk of errors, and helps employers remain compliant with UK Right to Work requirements while providing a seamless experience for candidates.

Digital Right to Work checks provide a faster, more secure, and more convenient way to verify a candidate's eligibility to work in the UK. Using advanced identity verification technology, including document validation and biometric facial matching, the process can be completed remotely without the need for face-to-face meetings or manual document checks.

Digital checks also reduce administrative burden, minimise the risk of human error, and provide accurate, compliant results quickly. This helps employers streamline hiring, improve the candidate experience, and maintain confidence in their Right to Work verification process.

DBS Checks FAQs

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a background check used to help employers make safer recruitment decisions. It identifies any relevant criminal record information held about a candidate and is commonly required for roles involving children, vulnerable adults, or positions of trust.

Depending on the level of check requested, a DBS certificate may include details of unspent convictions, cautions, and other relevant information. DBS checks help organisations meet their safeguarding and compliance responsibilities while creating safer workplaces.

A Basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check provides details of any unspent convictions or conditional cautions held against an individual. It is the most commonly requested level of DBS check and can be used for a wide range of roles across different industries.

Basic DBS checks help employers verify candidate suitability and support safer, more informed recruitment decisions.

A Standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check provides information on an individual's spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings held on the Police National Computer, subject to DBS filtering rules.

Standard DBS checks are typically required for positions of trust and certain regulated professions, helping employers make informed recruitment decisions while meeting legal and compliance requirements.

An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is the most detailed level of criminal record check available for eligible roles. It includes all information disclosed on a Standard DBS check, such as spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings, as well as any relevant information held by local police forces.

For roles involving children or vulnerable adults, an Enhanced DBS check can also include a check of the relevant Barred List(s), helping employers meet safeguarding obligations and make safer recruitment decisions.

DBS checks are required for many roles where individuals work with children, vulnerable adults, or hold positions of trust and responsibility. The level of DBS check required depends on the nature of the role and its legal eligibility.

Common sectors that require DBS checks include healthcare, education, social care, childcare, financial services, legal professions, and other regulated industries. Employers use DBS checks to support safer recruitment practices, meet safeguarding obligations, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

BPSS Clearance FAQs

BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance is typically completed during the pre-employment stage, helping employers verify a candidate's identity, right to work, employment history, and criminal record before they join the organisation.

However, vetting should not be viewed as a one-time activity. Many organisations are increasingly adopting periodic re-screening and ongoing vetting programmes to ensure their workforce continues to meet security, compliance, and risk management requirements throughout employment.

At Valantus, we support both pre-employment BPSS checks and ongoing workforce vetting, helping organisations maintain confidence in their people at every stage of the employment lifecycle.

BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance does not have a formal expiry date. However, organisations often choose to review or renew BPSS checks periodically, typically every three years, as part of their ongoing security and compliance processes.

The UK Government also recommends that BPSS checks are carried out when an individual changes employer or returns to work following a break in service of more than 12 months.

Regular re-vetting helps organisations maintain a trusted workforce, manage risk, and ensure employee records remain accurate and up to date.
